Now that they’ve silenced the Igloo, the Detroit Red Wings are ready to rock Hockeytown. Wherever they play, they’re beating the Pittsburgh Penguins with defense. After the Red Wings grabbed the lead on Jiri Hudler’s third-period goal, top-line forward Henrik Zetterberg and the rest of Detroit’s penalty-killers held off Pittsburgh during a lengthy 5-on-3 power play and went on to beat the Penguins…

Guillen ready to add to fielding resume

Carlos Guillen started his Major League career here a decade ago playing second and third base. Some guy named Alex Rodriguez was at shortstop for the Mariners. As the Tigers wrap up their three-game series against the M's on Sunday afternoon, Guillen is set to take another step in his career, likely starting in left field for the first time.

Verlander, Tigers stymied by Seattle

Hours after the Tigers seemingly had their flow, Saturday's flow looked all too familiar. Of course, a relative offensive outburst for Hernandez came on a day when the young right-hander needed barely any help. Hernandez allowed just two hits in seven innings, shutting down Detroit's big-budget offense in a 5-0 win over the Tigers on Saturday.

Rodney, Zumaya set for June return

The Tigers didn't have any more changes in store for Saturday, but they could be making room for Fernando Rodney and Joel Zumaya sooner than expected. Both Rodney and Zumaya are on track to join the Tigers sometime within the coming month of June as they prepare to begin Minor League rehab assignments.

Future uncertain for Wallace, Saunders and Pistons (AP)

Rasheed Wallace seems to symbolize the Detroit Pistons. He is a unique talent, the only player in league history with 100 3-pointers and 100 blocks in multiple seasons, and the team defies NBA convention by having success without a superstar or two. Wallace also appears to check out mentally at inopportune times, as do some of his Pistons teammates.

Larish relishes first big league hit

Jeff Larish earned a call to the Major Leagues by putting up some of the best power numbers for a left-handed hitter at Triple-A Toledo. He racked up his first big league RBI and first big league hit Friday without getting the ball out of the infield, a point coach Andy Van Slyke ribbed him about once he got to first base.
